Steven Grimes Beamer Model
Handbuilt by Stephen Grimes in Kula Hawaii
With Carpatian Spruce top, KOA back and sides
This double sound hole guitar was originally designed for and made popular by Keola Beamer, the great Hawaiian slack key artist. It has an astounding capability to produce a deep, rich tone with a bass response previously unattainable in a similarly sized body. By moving the soundhole away from the end of the fingerboard, a larger area of the top can be utilized to achieve a bigger sound overall. The transverse brace, usually located just behind the soundhole in front of the bridge, can be moved up to the end of the fingerboard, effectively “opening” up the tone producing potential of the soundboard. Available in “OM” (15 1/8” wide), and Concert (16 wide) sizes, the Beamer model is great for players who like a deep bass, especially those playing “slack key” style or using tunings with “D” or “C” in the bass. The double soundhole design does a few things better, or at least different, than a standard center soundhole guitar. In this design the traditional 3 7/8” – 4” round center soundhole, is replaced with two approximately 2 7/8” soundholes on either side of the fingerboard in the upper bout. The tonal changes most noticeable are the increase in sustain and the added richness to the bass. Having a larger area of soundboard that’s not interrupted by a soundhole, the double hole configuration allows for a fuller bass response, not unlike the difference between the richness of bass in a 15’ woofer compared to a 10” woofer in a stereo system. Some of my customers use slack key tunings with a “C” in the bass, and this design is capable of better reproduction of those low tones. At the same time, the mids and trebles are maintained by a bracing pattern that is a close relative of the traditional “X” brace, but which uses another “X” up under the fingerboard. The lower bout “X” is slightly shifted to the treble side, which enhances the mids and trebles and further helps the bass by creating larger areas on the bass side. It also reduces the possibility of cancelation, or “washing” of the sound from side to side due to perfectly symetrical vibrating areas on the treble and bass sides.
The upper bout of a flat top guitar is an area that is relatively limited acoustically, especially in comparison with the lower bout. It is a perfect location for the soundholes for a number of reasons. 1) The resonating area of the lower bout is enhanced. 2) The close proximity of the bracing under the fingerboard (the upper “X”) and the sides of the guitar to the two soundholes makes it unnecessary to use heavy bracing to support the edges of the soundholes, unlike the center hole design, where the hole is surrounded by substantial bracing. 3) The sound of the guitar is more prominent to the player, since the bass side hole is closer to the ear.
To sum it up, the double hole design produces a full, warm bass response and overall increase in sustain. The player also hears a more immediacy of tone to his/her ear . It sounds almost like holding a standard guitar up closer to your ear while playing. One drawback for the double hole design is that for those players with a deep, aggresive pick attack, its easier to scratch the soundboard under the strings with the pick, since there’s no hole there. Tonewise, the single soundhole guitars have a slightly more punchy quality to the tone with greater attack, while the double holes lend themselves to a warmer, rounder kind of response more suited to fingerpicking. I hear the word “open” used by players who pick up this guitar for the first time.
Two Notes Torpedo VB-101New
Torpedo VB-101
The Torpedo VB-101 is a DI for your
head amplifier composed of 3 main parts: a 150W RMS Loadbox to play silently
with your amp or preamp, a speaker & miking simulator powered by the
acclaimed Torpedo technology with all your favorite cabs inside and a Post-FX
section with all the processing effects you usually need when miking a guitar
cab (low-cut filter, 5-band EQ, exciter, compressor). The Torpedo VB-101 is made to be used
with a guitar/bass amp or preamp. Plug it in place of your regular cabinet and
enjoy all the great characteristics of your audio amplification chain (from the
guitar to the amp, including effects pedals) silently! The Torpedo VB-101 can replace the
whole guitar sound-recording process with some powerful simulation of the
cabinet, microphone, mic preamp and studio acoustics. Choose your speaker among
the 45 available, your microphone among the 8 most used studio mics and sculpt
your sound with the included effects section (EQ, Exciter, Compressor).Sound recording is done in silence and with
perfect control of every critical parameter. In a home / project studio, where the
cabins are not necessarily suitable for miking guitars (and the resulting high
volume), the Torpedo allows engineers to achieve sound recording silently
with no compromise with regards to sound quality. For studios already equipped for miking
guitar (cabins, microphones), it offers an alternative to the regular sound
recording process and can also be used as an addition to provide a wider range
of possibilities at the mixing stage.Another common use in a studio environment
is when you need to record a whole band in live conditions. The
Torpedo VB-101 then allows you to completely isolate the sound from the
bass guitar and other instruments without necessarily having a dedicated cabin.13,500Driftwood price 11,390 sekApplications
In studio
In home / project studio, where the cabins are not necessarily suitable for miking guitar (and the resulting high volume), it allows the engineer to perform a sound recording silent ly without any compromise on the sound.
For studios already equipped for miking guitar (cabins, microphones), it offers an alternative to the regular sound recording process and can be used together to provide a wider range of possibilities in the mix.
Another common use is in the studio when you need to record a whole band in live conditions. The Torpedo VB-101 then allows you to completely isolate the sound from the bass guitar and other instruments without necessarily having a dedicated cabin.
On stage
On stage, the Torpedo VB-101 will be a big asset for the comfort of the musicians and the public.
Find your own sound every night, gig after gig, do not be dependent on the bad microphone or the one not necessarily very well placed, etc.
The sound recording is not “polluted” by other instruments, making the FOH and personal monitor mixes much easier to do and more comfortable for the musicians.
Dual Miking
The new feature of the Torpedo VB-101 is what every sound engineer wants: the possibility to precisely place two microphones in front of a cabinet, or to select two different cabs and mics to mix the sound as you wish.
RemikingIn the studio, it can be very interesting to record a raw track that you can later reprocess (we call this “remiking”) at the mixing stage thanks to the Torpedo VB-101. This allows you to concentrate on the music when recording, not on the sound
Of course, you can record both processed and unprocessed signals to your DAW at the same time.
Torpedo Remote
The use of computer stations has become a
must these days, that’s why we have developed an application to control the
Torpedo VB-101 remotely from your Mac/PC via the USB connector on the rear
panel of the Torpedo VB-101.With its clear and intuitive interface, the
Torpedo Remote software will give you access to all the VB-101 parameters,
loading and saving presets, loading new IR’s and updating your VB-101. Via an
enhanced graphical interface, you have access to easier management of the
VB-101′s speakers and presets. The Torpedo Remote is Mac/PC compatibe and
can be freely downloaded in the downloads section.…………

Two Rock EL-1
Two-Rock EL-1
13,000Driftwood price 8995 sekThe Two-Rock buffered effects loop interface (ELI) is an effective tool for the guitarist wishing to utilize a myriad of outboard effects with any guitar amplifier having preamp output and power amp input jacks. Although not shown in the interconnect diagrams, the unit can also be used at the front end (preamp) of any guitar amplifier to buffer the signal fed to the amp. The buffered interface eliminates the insertion loss of effects chains by eliminating impedance mismatches created by various outboard effects units. In addition, compensation for hi frequency signal loss resulting from multiple effects being daisy-chained as well as long cable runs can be implemented. Signal Processing There are 2 main sections to the Effects loop interface. The first stage consists of a high impedance vacuum tube buffer with a +20dB signal increase capability as well as a high frequency boost via a bright switch if desired. Signal is then fed to the effects chain. Signal returning to the unit is processed by a second buffered tube stage with controllable signal level attenuation and an additional bright switch. Virtually any combination of effects, even with long cable runs, can benefit from the correct application of this interface. In addition, tone shaping via EQ and additional gain available can be used to alter or supplement your sound. Experimentation with signal levels is encouraged as there are a variety of settings that prove satisfactory. Audio Kitchen Lil Chopper
Lil Chopper,
7 watt Custom built amp from England, as used by Jeff Beck on his latest album
This one with some extra goodies like, Bright switch, switch between EL84 and 6V6/6L6, Hi-Lo input.19,900Driftwood price 14,900 sekYou can without removing tubes actually switch between 2 completely different output tubes and dramatically change the character of the amp. Amazing little amp for session/studio work or for live gigs as well. Quite loud if you want to. Finally a great tube amp for recoding sessions when you don´t want to be to load. Articulation and feel is amazing. please contact us for price The Little Chopper is an amp whose diminutive stature belies its vast wealth of exquisite sounds. Based around an ECC81 and ECC83 in the preamp and EL84 power amp, the tones range from ultimate ‘American’ cleans, through classic British chime and grunt, all the way out the other side to Crazy-Horse style scuzz. Controls on the front panel are Gain, Bass, Middle, Top, Stack, Power. Gain – This does what might be expected. It has the same function as the Volume or Gain control on early Non-Master volume amplifiers. Bass, Middle, Top – The tone stack is very flexible and with interactivity between its controls, ensures multitudinous timbral variation. Stack – This is a little trickier. In the counter-clockwise position the Bass, Middle and Top (BMT) controls behave as normal, but in the clockwise position the whole of the BMT is stripped out and just the Top control re-purposed as a high end roll-off. When your typical BMT stack is set to what appears ‘Flat’, in actual frequency response terms the Mids are scooped and the Lows and Highs are hyped. Having the BMT stack in there also attenuates the signal to quite a large degree, so when it is replaced by the high end roll-off there is a gain boost and an apparent mid boost. Power – This is a lot trickier. Full Clockwise the amp behaves like a standard non-master volume amp, but as the continuously variable control is wound anti-clockwise it decreases the headroom of the power amp, thus introducing harmonic distortion in the power amp and reducing the volume. This is an invaluable tool for tone creation and is part of the reason this amp has found its way into the hearts of many of the top guitarists and record producers on the planet.

Guitar Speakers
British Voice, Texas Tone.
We spent three painstaking years developing our guitar speakers not only to recreate but to improve on vintage late 1960’s Celestion™ tone, which our many clients agree has been lost over the decades. The result is our Featherlite™ cones with our proprietary cone formulas making our speakers essentially vintage right out of the box, rich effortless tone and superior power handling with no break in!
Our Featherlite™ cone construction provides an unobtrusive decoupling damping mechanism enhancing cone stability at high output levels thereby raising cone cry thresholds (reduces cone cry) without smothering desired breakup tone/modes or overall efficiency. Simply put, less moan, more tone!
Each speaker is assembled by hand and tested right here in Austin, TX and comes with our 1 Year Limited Warranty and our personal Customer Satisfaction Guarantee. We take pride in what we’ve accomplished and look forward to sharing it with you.
